2nd Open Science Train the Trainer Bootcamp
21st Century Scholarly Communication
After a successful first delivery of this virtual bootcamp in June 2022, we are pleased to announce its second iteration in December 2022! The format and delivery will be largely the same as before and will provide an opportunity for those of you who missed out the first time around to participate, as well as newcomers.
We hope that this will then become a regular event going forward and will be adapted where necessary to reflect the state-of-the-art. You will hear from a number of experts in these fields and will be a great opportunity to network - something that we hope can be nurtured and which will have long-term benefits.
Research, and how it is conducted, is ever-changing and requires those that are tasked in its support to also keep up-to-date in RDM, Open Science and Open Access. The knowledge learned must ultimately be passed onto the researchers and students themselves and the purpose of these bootcamps is to become a trainer in these subjects.
This is an intermediate level bootcamp, and we will assume some basic knowledge of the state-of-the-art.
Our learning objectives will be to:
- Understand at an intermediate and advanced level Open Science, open data, DMPs, OA publishing, IPR, Horizon Europe requirements, OpenAIRE services, and EOSC.
- Understand how to communicate and teach (pedagogy) these topics to researchers and students, and other stakeholders.
- Know how to use some tools and software that enable best practices in open science.
- Become confident and better equipped in being able to deal with difficult questions.
We will accept 30 applicants who will be taken on an intensive 5 half-day course where learners will be encouraged to communicate and collaborate with their fellow learners, during the course and beyond!
Who should attend?
We are looking for librarians, research support staff and other professional stakeholders who are planning to deliver Open Science training to researchers and students. We expect you to be aware of RDM topics and have an intermediate knowledge of Open Access publishing-related topics.
Geographically, there are no restrictions in principle and we welcome applicants from beyond Europe!
Evaluation Criteria
- Potential and motivation to conduct training on Open Science in your Institutions or communities - 50%.
- Previous experience as a trainer, particularly on topics related to Open Science- 50%.

Additional weighting criteria:
- Geographical balance (to establish a good representation of European regions with positive discrimination of eastern European participants).
