Accelerating Open Science Together: Join the Movement at Open Science Fair 2025
Open Science is reshaping how knowledge is created, shared, and applied around the world. But unlocking its full potential hinges on the active involvement of diverse voices across disciplines, regions, and sectors. That’s why OSFair 2025, co-organised by OpenAIRE and the CERN Open Science Office, taking place from 15 to 17 September at the CERN Science Gateway in Geneva, is the ideal place to join the conversation.
This year’s theme, “Fusing Forces - Accelerating Open Science through Collaboration,” emphasises the power of working together. In an era where global challenges demand collective intelligence, OSFair 2025 will spotlight the power of global, international and cross-regional partnerships in shaping the future of Open Science. True progress requires collaboration that transcends borders, disciplines, and institutions, uniting diverse perspectives to drive meaningful change.
Now more than ever, we need to fuse forces. Through joint efforts, we can better address uncertainty, explore emerging questions, and uncover insights that would remain hidden in isolation. Diverse perspectives and backgrounds strengthen the quality and transparency of research, helping us move forward more effectively. - Inge Van Nieuwerburgh,OpenAIRE Executive Board Chair & co-chair of OSFair 2025
Building on the success of OSFair 2023
At the 4th OSFair in Madrid, 382 participants from 42 countries gathered in person to exchange ideas, share innovations, and discuss the future of Open Science. Co-organised with Spain’s National Open Access Desk (NOAD) and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), the event was officially recognised under the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Key topics included rethinking research assessment, exploring AI’s role in scholarly communication, strengthening publishing models, and developing new skills for Open Science careers. The programme featured keynotes, panels, workshops, demos, and posters, making clear that Open Science is a community-driven movement.
What to expect at OSFair 2025
Building on that momentum, OSFair 2025 offers a rich programme designed to foster dialogue and action. Participants can expect an engaging programme featuring:
- 2 keynote speeches from leading voices in Open Science
- 13 (4 invited and 9 selected) panel sessions
- 18 individual presentations
- 7 collaborative workshops
- 12 demos showcasing tools and innovations
- 24 posters highlighting collaborative research efforts
The event programme is structured around five thematic tracks that reflect the most pressing priorities in Open Science today:
- Beyond Compliance: Measuring and Maximising Open Science Impact
- Open, but at What Cost? Research Security & Open Science
- Building the Digital Backbone: Open Science Infrastructures
- Rethinking Research Assessment
- Open Science for All: Skills & Community
In addition, two cross-cutting themes run throughout the event, weaving critical perspectives into all discussions: AI in Open Science and Policies for Equity & Inclusion.
Open Science Fair 2025 comes at a pivotal moment for global science, as we face increasing challenges to trust, equity, and sustainability in research. This year’s conference will spotlight transformative practices in FAIR data, responsible research assessment, and the power of community-driven infrastructures to strengthen science for the public good. Join expert speakers and panelists from around the world working at the forefront of the open movement, and help us shape a more open, resilient, and inclusive scientific future—your voice is essential to this global effort. - Kamran Naim, Head of Open Science at CERN & co-chair of OSFair 2025
