Research Data Management and Legal issues related to research data by S. Venkataraman (DCC) and Thomas Margoni (CREATe)

In this 'double bill' webinar, we first hear about the basic principles of Research Data Management, explained by S. Venkataraman from Digital Curation Centre (DCC). Participants are pointed to essential tools and standards, as well as a number of good practices related to RDM and data management planning.

In the second part of the webinar, Thomas Margoni from CREATe illustrates the legal framework around the complex issue of data ownership and will try to explain in non legal terms what the law says, what researchers need to know, what is the role of Open Science principles in this area, and what kind of supporting material OpenAIRE has produced to assist researchers.

Research Community Gateway: Showcasing new developments

  • Thursday, 11 July 2019
The OpenAIRE Research Community Gateway (connect.openaire.eu), facilitates Research Communities adoption of Open Science publishing principles by supporting artefact publishing tools as-a-Service.

Research Community Gateway is a virtual environment to implement Open Science publishing practices:
  • Implement the latest Open Science trends: FAIR data, open data
  • Share all your research results: publications, data, software, methods
  • Link all your research effectively
  • Gather all your research results in one place
  • Monitor and report your community’s progress

This webinar presents how the OpenAIRE-Connect project is building the community gateway to Open Science, their motivations, how it works, focusing on the new developments in the Research Community Gateway, and how Research Managers can manage and personalize their community gateway.

Research Data Management: An introductory Webinar from OpenAIRE and EUDAT

Research Data Management: An introductory Webinar from OpenAIRE and EUDAT

  • Wednesday, 25 May 2016
OpenAIRE/EUDAT introductory Webinar on Research Data Management: Aims to introduce researchers and others to the concept of research data management (RDM). As well as presenting the benefits of taking an active approach to research data management – including increased speed and ease of access, efficiency (fund once, reuse many times), and improved quality and transparency of research – the webinar advises on strategies for successful RDM, resources to help manage data effectively, choosing where to store and deposit data, the EC H2020 Open Data Pilot and the basics of data management, stewardship and archiving.
Webinar scope and aims: Whether measurements from sensors, results from simulations or interview recordings, modern scholarship generates incredible amounts of digital information which, properly kept and shared, holds the potential to drive new research and innovation. Recognising this, funders are implementing policies for RDM and data sharing, such as the Horizon 2020 Open Research Data Pilot, which aims to improve and maximise access to the research data generated by EU-funded projects. But good data management skills are useful far beyond complying with funder commitments: well-managed data foster good scientific practice and sharing well-formed, well-described data increases research impact.
On 26 May 2016, OpenAIRE and EUDAT co-presenteded this webinar which aims to introduce researchers and others to the concept of research data management (RDM).
Learning objectives: At the end of the Webinar participants will be able to:
  • Articulate the importance of research data management;
  • Set clear goals regarding data archiving and sharing (both during and after a project)
  • Understand the basic principles of data management, stewardship and archiving
  • Identify appropriate RDM tools and services
Target audience: Introductory training for researchers, project coordinators and research administrators
