Νew features in Argos DMP Service: closer to the community

Data management planning in the era of EOSC and AI becomes all the more crucial. The Horizon Europe framework programme focus on open science has already signalled the importance of having tools in place and using  them even from proposal writing stage that will allow partners to understand and anticipate needs.

Argos is the OpenAIRE Data Management Plan service that supports researchers to understand the needs of research data management early in the process, and to use best-fit or emerging infrastructure to tackle aspects of FAIR-ness, openness, costs, legal and ethical issues for re-use. It also addresses requirements as set up by research institutions and funders that put the rules in the data environment.

Listening to our user base: Argos is a new service in the OpenAIRE portfolio and we have started building a user base to ensure that we develop a service that responds to real needs. Based on the feedback we have received, our team enhanced Argos with new features to improve the interoperation and the user experience. All changes were released in May in argos.openaire.eu.

More templates

Argos DMP collection now contains DMP templates for CHIST-ERA (a pathfinder programme for European coordinated research on future and emerging information and communication technologies), Serbian Science Fund, TUBITAK (the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), University of Debrecen. That makes it easier for research funding agencies to set the rules and for researchers to follow.

More languages

Argos now supports Portuguese, Serbian and Slovak. Why is this important? Because DMPs will be a key component in many institutional settings (see our co-branding pages).

argos localization

Direct link to Zenodo

Argos now exposes a structured version of a DMP in the form of machine actionable DMPs (maDMPs - RDA specifications) to Zenodo, as complementary to .pdfs.

Working with the community

The Argos team closely follows the activities of global RDM fora and actively participates to communicate own practices and exchange ideas for improvements on the structure, content and semantics of DMPs, particularly urging for normalization of datasets at the level of data types and disciplinary protocols.

What's next

Since April 2021, Argos has been performing two-phase user assessments on the completely redesigned environment of its Administrators interface. The interface will be available to research support staff and funders who can create their machine actionable DMP templates in Argos and share with the academic and research community of researchers, including early career practitioners. User assessments are still running with internal and external affiliates of OpenAIRE.

Stay tuned for the public launch of Argos Administrator and many more September 2021!
Words of appreciation

Argos is thankful for its developers who are devoted into increasing the quality and exploitation of Argos DMP outputs: from working to integrate with services that allow for automation of workflows in scholarly communication ecosystems to addressing even the slightest issues that would ease user experience and create a positive feeling around DMP writing.
Argos is also grateful for the OpenAIRE community comprising more than 50 institutions, initiatives and service providers and for everyone outside the OpenAIRE family who have greatly impacted progress, all via in-kind contributions to rapidly respond and provide solutions that address emerging needs of DMP tools and outputs.
