Athena Research Center & OpenAIRE AMKE, in collaboration with the National Library of Greece, organised a Training Seminar on Open Science & Data Management

Dec 10, 2024

Athena Research Center and OpenAIREAMKE co-organised a training seminar on Open Science and Data Management Practices in response to a direct request from students and professors of Ulm University of Applied Sciences. The seminar was held in collaboration with the National Library of Greece as part of efforts to support the development of Open Science through educational initiatives for students, fostering future collaboration between European research organisations and academic institutions. Similar training initiatives are pivotal for promoting a collaborative research culture across Europe.

The event took place on November 20, 2024, from 11:00 to 13:00, at the Computer Lab 2A of the National Library of Greece, located in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

The seminar was designed both as an introduction to Open Science and its methodologies and as a unique opportunity for 20 students and their professors to gain insights into the Open Science landscape in Greece and Europe.

Topics that were covered during the training session:

Open Science in Greece & International Collaborations

An introduction to Open Science, outlining collaboration approaches between academia and industry through European projects and research initiatives.

Research Data Management Based on FAIR Principles

An overview of Research Data Management (RDM) following FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles and internationally recognized best practices, with examples of their implementation in Greece and Germany.

Data Management Plans (DMP) & Use of Argos

A presentation on Data Management Plans (DMPs) and the Argos platform, showcasing exemplary and approved practices for managing open data.

Research Tools, Case Studies & Career Development

The final session focused on the use of platforms like EXPLORE and Zenodo for securely searching research data (illustrated through case studies).

Participants gained exposure to the world of Open Science, the structure and operation of European research collaborations in this domain, and the opportunity to interact with established professionals in the field. This event represents an important step toward disseminating best practices and fostering networking to strengthen the European Open Science community.
