OpenAIRE's Ongoing Influence on Open Science Initiatives in Turkey Highlighted Across any Platform
The "IFLA Division D Mid-term Meeting", hosted by Koç University, took place in Istanbul on June 5-7, 2024 and was a resounding success, gathering over 80 participants, from 57 different institutions and 16 different countries. Offering a broad spectrum cover of all aspects of Open Science, this event provided a platform for researchers, librarians, data managers, and scientific infrastructure developers to discuss critical issues, such as Open Access and the Role of Collection Development, Open Infrastructure, Open Data, and Transformative Agreements.
Over the course of 4 distinct event sessions, a total of 27 presentations were shared with the conference attendants. These presentations contained information on current developments, as well as examples of practices and applications by the participants, resulting in a very productive meeting.GültekinGürdal, Library Director of theIzmir Institute of Technology(IZTE) and OpenAIRE AMKE Board Member attended the meeting, sharing a paper they co-authored along with Begüm Yavuz andGönül Kafalı Can.
The title of the paper was "The Impact of OpenAIRE on Open Science Studies at IZTECH" and it was presented by mr Gürdal himself. During the presentation of this collective work, mr Gürdalemphasised the role that OpenAIRE has played in the adoption of Open Science practicesat IZTECH. Participants were highly engaged with Gürdal's presentation insights, reflecting a broad interest in how OpenAIRE's frameworks and support can drive Open Science initiatives globally.
It is through events like these the scientific community is able to better underscore the importance of collaboration and shared knowledge in advancing the principles of Open Science. As an overall conclusion, the "IFLA Division D Mid-term Meeting" left all the attendees inspired and equipped with new strategies to implement in their journey towards Open Science.
