Reflections on EOSC Future's Training Workshop

reflections-on

EOSC Future project

Extension: In a continued effort to finalise key elements of the EOSC Future project, previously due to end on 30th Sept 2023, the project has been granted an extension of six months and is now set to finish at the end of March 2024. This extension is the basis for planning of handover to the next phase of EOSC's development: OpenAIRE will continue work in several key areas of the extension as well as completing and/or revising existing training and learning resources to reflect, for example, changes to the EOSC platform. OpenAIRE will also continue work on the EOSC Knowledge Hub to both improve its functionality and enrich it.
In these remaining months of the extension, there will be more new content made available and training events to be delivered – keep an eye out on the project website for more details!

Accomplishments: One of the major accomplishments we witnessed towards the end of September was the full integration of EOSC AAI into OpenPlato and, thereby, the EOSC KH, and the inclusion of OpenPlato into the EOSC Portal & Marketplace, marking another significant achievement. This means that OpenPlato is now fully integrated with the wider EOSC ecosystem through single sign-on with the benefits that brings. New and existing users are encouraged to take advantage of this!

The Event: September also held a major training event organised by EOSC Future that took place in Ohrid, North Macedonia on 11th-13th. This event was exclusive to participants from the Western Balkans and Ukraine in a bid to "level up" EOSC's use across Europe – an express ambition of EOSC. Nearly 100 people took part in this 3-day event which was recognised by the local science and education ministry, EU delegation, and media. The aim was to provide training on the state-of-the-art of EOSC Future's work and specifically the EOSC technical, legal, and training aspects, while also providing the opportunity for networking. It was a resounding success with respondents to our post-event survey expressing high satisfaction. We hope that this event will have a lasting legacy.

"[It's a way of democratising science], in a way that will allow all scientists from the continent access to services, software and data in their future research. Scientists from the Western Balkans, including from North Macedonia, will also be able to present here their scientific papers, the results of their research, compare their knowledge and thus, through an open scientific approach, use those contacts and knowledge for their own needs."
