Future-proofing Research Repositories
The Interoperability & Networks for Open Science Working Group of the Couperin consortium has developed IMPACT-R, a poster in French addressing the key challenges of interoperability, sustainability, and robustness in research repositories.
IMPACT-R provides a clear and operational synthesis of the seven pillars underpinning a sustainable, interoperable repository infrastructure capable of anticipating technological developments, particularly those related to artificial intelligence.
The poster highlights, among other aspects:
- compliance with the FAIR principles (standardized metadata, persistent identifiers);
- the importance of open standards, APIs, and integration with research information systems;
- the strategic role of repositories within institutional open science policies;
- the need for sustainable funding and strengthened professional expertise;
- active participation in national and international networks;
- and the challenges related to security, reliability, and long-term data preservation.
The result of a collective effort within the Working Group, the poster builds on international reflections carried forward by OpenAIRE, LIBER, SPARC, and COAR https://coar-repositories.org/news-updates/action-plan-for-open-repositories-in-europe-impact-repo/.
IMPACT-R aims to support institutions in their strategic decisions regarding repository infrastructures and to contribute to a coherent, robust, and sustainable approach to research data ecosystems.
