OpenAIRE Engages EOSC Community at Winter School 2026
OpenAIRE actively participated in the EOSC Winter School 2026, held in Nice, France, from 27–29 January 2026, contributing its expertise to discussions on advancing and operationalising the EOSC Federation. Organised by the EOSC Association with support from the EOSC Gravity project, the event brought together more than 170 stakeholders to focus on onboarding processes, interoperability, and skills development across the EOSC ecosystem.
Engaging the community on EOSC EU Node development
Through its involvement in the EOSC EU Node, OpenAIRE engaged directly with organisations exploring participation in the Federation during the EOSC Stakeholder Brokerage Event and the Competences and Training track of the EOSC Winter School. Representingthe EOSC EU Node, Maja Dolinar (OpenAIRE) contributed to discussions on training and capacity building for successful Node enrolment, sharing insights on the skills and organisational competences required to build and operate a Node, and on how structure support can help stakeholders progress from initial interest to effective participation in the EOSC Federation.
Discussions highlighted a strong community need for clearer, practical guidance on how organisations can transition from interest to active Federation participation. The EOSC EU Node's engagement provided concrete operational insights from the Node build-up experience and helped inform the further development of structured training and capacity-building support for future and candidate Nodes.
Contributing to skills and interoperability discussions
OpenAIRE also contributed to the Winter School's thematic programme on competences and training, highlighting that successful EOSC participation depends on coordinated expertise across technical, organisational, and policy domains.
Through the OSTrails, Elli Papadopoulou contributed to advancing discussions on interoperability frameworks supporting EOSC Federation adoption. Brokerage meetings and thematic sessions explored how machine-actionable data management plans, scientific knowledge graph integration, and FAIR assessment approaches can support Nodes at different stages of maturity.
The OSTrails participation emphasised practical adoption conversations and community feedback on interoperability needs.
Strengthening collaboration across EOSC
The Winter School offered an important opportunity for OpenAIRE to connect with both established and emerging EOSC stakeholders. As noted by OpenAIRE CTO Paolo Manghi, discussions with organisations interested in becoming EOSC Nodes, alongside exchanges on interoperability methodologies contributing to a common EOSC Interoperability Framework, fostered new collaborations and generated ideas for future joint work.
Supporting the evolution of the EOSC Federation
OpenAIRE's participation reaffirmed its role in supporting the EOSC Federation through community engagement, technical expertise, and capacity building. By contributing experience from its activities and projects while engaging directly with stakeholders, OpenAIRE continues to support organisations on their path towards successful enrolment, onboarding, and collaboration within EOSC.
