The University of Tartu Library and DataCite Estonia Consortium are organising an international seminar: Open Research Data - the FAIRest Data is the Future of Science

In the digital age, research data is the basis on which knowledge, innovation, economy and social well-being are built.

There is an urgent need for supporting the reuse of scholarly data as a public good. Building e-infrastructures enables researchers to make their data open that means, freely available to download and available for secondary analyses.

Academic libraries have set up digital repositories, allowing their researchers’ data to be FAIR: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. Data, even if open, is not FAIR by default. Libraries and data centres that preserve and disseminate open research data, offer a crucial service for academia. Establishing a universal repository which provides long-term preservation and a wide range of functionalities is a complex task for universities that needs the support of all stakeholders.

This seminar examines state-of-the-art institutional repositories and common problems, provides networking and sharing of best practices.


The target group is researchers, doctoral students, data managers and research administrative staff who are supposed to preserve and open up their research data.


Keynote speech is delivered by prof. Carol Tenopir who will introduce her two different research: 2015 PLOS ONE scientists survey that shows why Research Data Services are needed and LIBER 2016 research data services in European libraries: current offerings and plans for the future.
