Cineca logo   Cineca established in 1969, is a non-profit consortium consisting of 67 Italian Universities, the National Institute of Oceanography and   Experimental Geophysics (OGS), the National Research Council (CNR), and the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR).
  In Italy Cineca is the high technology bridge between the academic world, research and the world of industry and public administration   providing IT infrastructure and services to universities, research centres and to MIUR for the management of their activities.
As a national supercomputing facility, one of the largest in Europe, runs a HPC infrastructure equipped with cutting-edge technology and offers highly qualified personnel that cooperate with researchers and customers for the most effective exploitation of the HPC systems, in both the academic and industrial fields.
It represents Italy in several European Union projects, participating in numerous activities related to the promotion, development and disseminatiuon of the most advanced information technologies. Since 2004 it has been involved in supporting implementation of Open Access in Italia universities; it developed PLEIADI, the current  portal to access Italian Scholarlaly publications deposited in  Italian open institutional and disciplinary archives, it also developed and  run  IRIS a CRIS based on DSpacein over 60 Italian universities and other research performing institutions. Since 2009 it has been a partner of OpenAIRE in the capacity of National Open Access Desk for Italy
