Overview

OpenAIRE is looking for a Development and Operation Director, responsible for overseeing the technical roadmap planning, developments, and high-quality delivery of the OpenAIRE infrastructure data and services, namely the OpenAIRE Research Graph and the added-value end-user applications OpenOrgs, PROVIDE, DEVELOP, EXPLORE, MONITOR, CONNECT, Observatory, and UsageCounts.


The activity will be carried out in strict collaboration with the OpenAIRE Chief Technology Officer and the Team Leaders of all the OpenAIRE products.

Activities include, in collaboration with the CTO:

  • Definition and implementation of the technical roadmap with respect to the activities in various projects, MoUs, collaborations, and the OpenAIRE grand vision;
  • Managing development activities in projects and supervising relationships with stakeholders and customers;
  • Coordinating team leaders and members to ensure maximum performance, dedication, and personal satisfaction;
  • Supervising the system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Adaptation and balancing of the available resources to ensure optimal delivery;
  • Coordination of development tasks across different product development teams;
  • Solving complex technical problems, by breaking them down into logical streams or sprints;
  • Establishing standards on technological best practices for the development and deployment of software
  • Identifying technology trends, opportunities, and risks that may favor or impede the delivery and success of the infrastructure
  • Setting comprehensive goals to measure performance and goals

We expect a solid background in:

  • Distributed and parallel system architectures;
  • Service and data interoperability;
  • Software development (quality, continuous deployment, distributed teams);
  • Data management, aggregation, and analysis;
  • Team management;
  • Roadmap planning and delivery.

What we offer

  • The salary ranges from 50,000 EUR to 65,000 EUR gross annually, depending on the level of entry experience
  • The position requires regular presence at the offices in Pisa (Italy) or Athens (Greece).
