EIFL enables access to knowledge through libraries in developing and transition countries to support sustainable development.
Contribution to Open Science
EIFL was one of the originally signatories for the Budapest Open Access Initiative, which first coined the term Open Access in 2002. EIFL Open Access Programme was established in 2003.

Working in collaboration with libraries and library consortia in more than 50 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe, EIFL advocates for open access to research results, facilitates the development and implementation of open science policies and infrastructures, and provides support and training.
