Sep 30, 2022

The Agreement on Reforming Research sets a shared direction for changes in assessment practices for research organisations with the overarching goal to maximise the quality and impact of research. This is a major milestone for the research community and we are happy to announce that OpenAIRE was among the first signatories.

“Our organisation embraces the common vision of the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment  and commits to working on the practical implementation towards a more qualitative evaluation. Together we can achieve more. Congrats to everyone involved to make this happen!”Inge Van NieuwerburghChair of OpenAIRE Executive Board

“Responsible research and career assessment that includes Open Science is one of the five strategic priorities of OpenAIRE. In our newly launched Strategy Document, we identify the RA challenges and propose action lines to support and facilitate the reform of the Research Assessment. The Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment could not have come at a better time. Now it is time for action.”  Eloy RodriguesChair of the OpenAIRE Open Science Strategies Standing Committee

OpenAIRE is an established no-profit partnership with the mission to shift scholarly communication towards openness and transparency and facilitate innovative ways to communicate and monitor research. During the last decade, OpenAIRE members have been working to align European and national policies, raise awareness about Open Science, develop services and organise training to make Open Science happen. In addition, OpenAIRE has been contributing to the European Commission policies for years and taking an active part in joint initiatives such as the coalition on reforming research assessment.

On July 20th 2022, the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment has been published. The collection of signatures to the Agreement will be launched on September 28th  at the Research and Innovation Days during a plenary session on reforming research assessment. OpenAIRE will be there taking an active part.
