  • Synthesis of a Novel Gemini Cationic Surfactant and Its Inhibition Behaviour and Mechanism Study on 2024 Al-Cu-Mg Alloy in Acid Solution

Du, Juan; Chen, Qiaochu; Liu, Qingmao; Hu, Xuelan (2018)
Isopropylamine was taken as a raw material to synthesize a new multi-alkyl multiple quaternary-ammonium salts gemini surfactant bis[2-hydroxy-3-(dodecyldimethylammonio)propyl]-isopropylamine dichloride. The structure of the synthetic product was characterized by 1H NMR and FTIR. The surface activity was investigated; the inhibition efficiencies and inhibition mechanism of the synthetic product were studied by weight loss method, electrochemical method, microscopic morphology observation, and ...

Experimental Investigation on Corrosion of Cast Iron Pipes

It is well known that corrosion is the predominant mechanism for the deterioration of cast iron pipes, leading to the reduction of pipe capacity and ultimate collapse of the pipes. In order to assess the remaining service life of corroded cast iron pipes, it is imperative to understand the mechanisms of corrosion over a long term and to develop models for pipe deterioration. Although many studies have been carried out to determine the corrosion behavior of cast iron, little research has been ...

Corrosion Behaviour of AZ and ZA Magnesium Alloys in Alkaline Chloride Media

Öteyaka, Mustafa Ö.; Ghali, Edward; Tremblay, Réal (2012)
Corrosion behaviour of AZ and ZA magnesium alloys in untreated, aerated, and deaerated chloride media was investigated. The influence of impurity, alloying element, and oxygen on corrosion potential, rate, and pitting was examined in alkaline media saturated with Mg(OH)2 at pH 9 and 25°C. After 8 h immersion, slightly less active corrosion potentials were generally observed in deaerated than oxygen containing solutions. AZ91D and ZA104 alloys recorded much lower corrosion rates in deaerated m...

Effect of C/Si Ratio on the Electrochemical Behavior of a-SiCx:H Coatings on SS301 Substrate Deposited by PECVD

    D. Li; S. Guruvenket; J. A. Szpunar; J. E. Klemberg-Sapieha (2014)
Amorphous hydrogenated silicon carbide (a-SiCx:H) coatings were deposited on stainless steel 301 (SS301) using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition with the methane gas flow ranging from 30 to 90 sccm. XRD spectra confirmed the amorphous structure of these coatings. The as-deposited coatings all exhibited homogenous dense feature, and no porosities were observed in SEM and AFM analysis. The a-SiCx:H coatings remarkably increased the corrosion resistance of the SS301 substrate. With the i...

Eco-Friendly Corrosion Inhibition of Pipeline Steel Using Brassica oleracea

    N. C. Ngobiri; E. E. Oguzie; Y. Li; L. Liu; N. C. Oforka; O. Akaranta (2015)
The inhibition capacity of Brassica oleracea (BO) extract on the corrosion of pipeline steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 was evaluated using electrochemical techniques. The results showed an excellent inhibition efficiency which increased with initial increase in extract concentration and temperature to a point and decreased with further increase in BO extract concentration and temperature. Mixed inhibition behaviour was proposed for the action of BO. The unique behaviour of BO was attributed to the organ...
