Belgium is celebrating Open Access Week 2025 with three webinars. This edition of Open Access Week is dedicated to researchers and their need for guidance through open access publication models and projects.

As an academic author, navigating copyright in the era of Open Access can be challenging. In this session, you will learn how to strategically manage and retain your rights before, during, and after publication. We provide you with concrete tools and legal insights to maximize the impact of your work.
After this session, you will be able to:

– Choose and apply the right Creative Commons license for your specific goals.
– Understand and exercise your statutory right of secondary publication under Belgian law.
– Implement a rights retention strategy to secure your author’s rights before signing a publishing agreement.
– Navigate the challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic publishing, focusing on copyright implications and publisher policies.

    • Melios Katsamakis, Technical Contributor – Rights modelling and Open Science infrastructures, OpenAIRE

As part of International Open Access Week 2025 and this year's theme “Who Owns Our Knowledge?”, OpenAIRE presents the Knowledge Commons Café: Who Owns the Knowledge?, two-part series of open conversations on trust, AI, and the future of open knowledge.

This session examines the intersection of rightsvalue, and governance in the era of AI and Open Science.

Building on the discussions and insights from our session at OSFair 2025, this work draws on findings from the EOSC Beyond and LLMs4EU projects to present emerging frameworks for rights metadatalicensing, and the responsible use of research outputs in federated infrastructures.

Join us to discuss how the EOSC Rights Vocabulary and machine-readable licensing can support fairness, transparency, and innovation in the European research ecosystem.

Who should join:

This webinar is intended for researchers, data stewards, repository managers, infrastructure providers, policy makers, funders, and legal or ethics experts engaged in the technical, legal, and governance aspects of Open Science and AI.

    • Stefania Amodeo (OpenAIRE / EVERSE Network)
    • Paolo Manghi (OpenAIRE)

Paolo Manghi (OpenAIRE) will present this tutorial webinar regarding enhancing FAIRness of research software using the OpenAIRE Graph.

This presentation explores how the OpenAIRE Graph supports the implementation of FAIR principles in research software.

As an open source Scholarly Knowledge Graph aggregating metadata from over 150k trusted sources the Graph contains over 300 million interconnected records with 2 billion links, including more than 800k software products that continue to grow rapidly.

We will examine how the OpenAIRE Graph operationalizes FAIRness, exploring both the challenges and opportunities in managing software research outputs, with the goal of helping researchers and Research Software Engineers enhance the visibility, recognition, and impact of their software within the scientific ecosystem.

All EVERSE events are governed by our Code of Conduct.
