If you can't measure it, you can't manage it, and you can’t improve it!

Building the European Open Science Observatory

We are proud to announce the start of EOSC Track, a new Horizon Europe project led by OpenAIRE which will develop and operate the European Open Science Observatory. A policy intelligence platform that will monitor policies, investments, digital research outputs, skills and infrastructure related to Open Science across Europe.

Our mission is to simplify and streamline monitoring in the European Open Science ecosystem, to bring a common understanding on how to collect and interpret data appropriate for monitoring, as well as to assist policymakers and research executives across Europe in understanding, shaping, and aligning policies and implementation.

The European Open Science Observatory will be built on the initial version of the EOSC Observatory, an outcome of the EOSC Future project. We have a lot of new functions planned to make it a 360o policy intelligence platform.

We will keep you updated along the way, so stay tuned!

OPEN SCHOLARLY COMMUNICATION
2023 Global Diamond Access Summit

With an emphasis on science as a public good, the 2023 Global Summit on Diamond Open Access brought together 260 attendees in Mexico (and 422 online, representing 75 countries in total) to discuss the future of Open Access publishing.

The importance of Green OA (repositories and CRIS) working alongside Diamond OA was also stressed by participants as a mechanism that ensures the sustainability, plurality and innovation of publishing models.

Case study: FCT using Argos for their DMPs

The Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) in Portugal has been actively taking actions and measures to implement Open Science.

In the context of research data management, FCT, through its Scientific Computing Unit  (FCCN), used ARGOS and created a DMP template to be used in FCT-funded research projects. This allows researchers to easily comply with the national RDM policy, in an out of the box manner.

New pages in EXPLORE for funders

Identifying and locating funders in the OpenAIRE Graph has been made much simpler with the new addition of the OpenAIRE EXPLORE Funders pageGetting this data out of the massive knowledge graph used to be a laborious process. Thanks to this new page, users can quickly and easily access this information with a few clicks.

What is the significance of this? We consider this to be part of our process of creating an integrated R&I data space, where OpenAIRE verifies, cleans, curates, and assigns funding data to individual research results.

We would definitely like more funders to be involved, so read and contact us.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure reflections

In an interview published on Upstream, the OpenAIRE team discusses ways to explore and inform on how POSI influences decision-making practices and the development aspects of an open infrastructure.
