OpenAIRE’s 2025 General Assembly: Dialogue, engagement & shared vision for the future |
In September, OpenAIRE members gathered in Geneva for two days of open dialogue, reflection and shared purpose. This year’s General Assembly was more than a meeting, it was a moment to reconnect, exchange ideas and co-create our next steps together. Members elected Joeri Both, Vice Director at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Library, as the new Chair, marking a renewal of leadership and reaffirming our model of shared governance. Discussions centred on shaping the OpenAIRE Strategy 2026–2028, built around emerging priorities. Through an active dialogue, members explored how OpenAIRE services support their work, shared national experiences and offered concrete ideas to guide our next phase. The insights gathered in Geneva will feed directly into the new Strategy and upcoming community actions. Read how our members are shaping OpenAIRE’s future and driving the next wave of Open Science in Europe and beyond. |

From Paper to Code: OpenREL and the Future of FAIR Rights |
OpenAIRE and DANS turned legal jargon into a live simulation game, bringing rights negotiation to life through the OpenREL prototype. From copyright to consent, participants explored how digital rights can become as FAIR and interoperable as the data they govern. Because in Open Science, data isn’t truly open until the rights are too. |
