Looking to the Future: Science, Research and Innovation Performance 2024 E.U. Report
As one of the more significant publications of the European Commission’s Directorate--General for Research and Innovation, the” Science, Research and Innovation Performance” (SRIP) report is a biannual edition that analyses research and innovation dynamics, along with the general innovation performance of the E.U. as well as the drivers that are behind these developments.
The recently released 2024 report rounds up major developments in the areas of science and R&I recorded over the course of the past year in E.U. countries, while at the same time outlining the important role that R&I holds in driving competitiveness, environmental sustainability and improved quality of life. The report offers both data as well as in-depth analyses of the topics at hand, along with a thorough exploration of the relevant policy issues in the context of the E.U. and highlights the necessary steps to maintain existing momentum moving forward.
This latest edition focuses on the following four pillars: R&I efforts in light of E.U. challenges, the E.U.’s scientific performance, the local E.U. R&I ecosystems and the overall E.U. innovative landscape.
Relevance to OpenAIRE: The report is using propriatary data to derive most of its analytics (Scopus). For the first time, in collaboration with the authors, OpenAIRE made a significant contribution to the chapter on Scientific Performance by providing data, collected from the OpenAIRE Graph in particular, on the status and progress of Open-Access peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, OpenAIRE contributed to the “Open science: challenges and opportunities” chapter on identifying the challenges facing the E.U. scientific and research community and environment at the moment, as well as offering insights into the measures proposed by the open access community to address these challenges.
