New repository tools and services, Visual Project Explorer (VIPER) and a novel recommender service
At the end of 2017, OpenAIRE launched an open call for tenders for a total of 80.000 Euros, seeking innovative ideas that would improve the OpenAIRE infrastructure services and/or its overall uptake. Five out of 13 proposals received, have been selected for funding, two in the area of “Repository tools and services” and three in the area of “Value-added services”.


COAR recommendations for next generation repositories
On a dedicated website and through GitHub, 11 new behaviours for next generation repositories and a snapshot of the current status of technology, standards and protocols to support each behaviour are now available. COAR welcomes community feedback about existing recommendations and suggestions for other technologies not yet identified.


Increasing commitment from European universities in implementing Open Access
The European University Association (EUA) has published its Open Access Survey Report 2016-2017 and is launching the 2017-2018 Open Access Survey. The Open Access Survey tracks universities’ progress towards open access by looking at the degree to which they have implemented institutional policies and practices in the field.

FOSTER releases the first draft of the Open Science Training Handbook. 14 experts from 10 countries have worked for five days to create the first draft of what will become a comprehensive overview of practical resources and tools to support trainers who would like to teach and inspire researchers on Open Science topics. The Handbook is open for comment/feedback until March 4th, 2018!


Top projects in providing open access to publications and data
The European Commission updated its Research and Innovation performance and Horizon 2020 country participation section in February 2018 with research-related data and recent success stories on projects. Let’s find out the success stories of seven featured projects in the OpenAIRE portal; EUROfusion project, RD-Connect project, ATLANTOS project, Oppla platform, MIROR project, PACMAN project and CERES project. Did you know? Every Horizon 2020 project has a project page on the OpenAIRE portal, linking data, project information and publications together and making reporting easier.


CoreTrustSeal Data Repository certification
A new CoreTrustSeal Application Management Tool (AMT) has been released. The new tool replaces the tool used by Data Seal of Approval (DSA), shortly to be closed, and works in tandem with the Membership Management Tool (MMT) of the World Data System (ICSU-WDS).
