OA Week 2013 - Redefining Impact
21-27 October 2013 is Open Access Week!
This year’s theme is ‘Redefining Impact’.
In recent years, the concept of scholarly impact and the way scientific research output is being distributed, has undergone significant changes. The life-cycle of research output no longer ends with publication – and researchers are learning to use the full potential of the internet to increase the visibility and reach of research. The vast Europe-wide infrastructure underlying OpenAIRE provides participating projects with a unique opportunity to showcase and share research output far beyond the traditional research network.
But OpenAIRE is about more than displaying research output: through the OpenAIRE portal scientific publications can be linked to related information such as project information, underlying datasets and research information systems.
Scientific output from research projects thus becomes a lot more than just a publication: it becomes a part of a much larger web of related research. Moreover, by providing tons of sharing and metrics tools OpenAIRE takes care that all this work can be shared with the whole world - and makes sure that the impact of European research reaches beyond the national borders.
