CONNECT: A new Community Gateway onboard - INSTRUCT
OpenAIRE has developed the Research Community Gateway within its CONNECT Service. This is a unique one-stop-shop where all the information about an entity (institution, project, research community) can be gathered in one place.
Research Outputs to Gather:
- Publications: peer-reviewed manuscripts will describe the activities and research scenarios during the project.
- Research Data: link to relevant research data and make your community’s data more visible
- Software: store your code in Zenodo and this will automatically be linked to the project.
Let’s take a look at a concrete example
Instruct-ERIC is the single point of access to technology and expertise for structural biology research. Through its specialist research centres in Europe, Instruct-ERIC offers funded research visits, training, internships and R&D awards. By promoting integrative methods, Instruct-ERIC enables excellent science and technological development for the benefit of all life scientists. Instruct-ERIC generates a vast output of publications and is looking for a solution to identify, report, and communicate these publications.
What is the Problem: Collecting publications and other research outputs that acknowledge Instruct-ERIC is a challenge within a large distributed research infrastructure. It requires a time-consuming manual search in publication databases plus manual verification, which can be a headache for regular reporting.
This is where the OpenAIRE Connect service can help!
How is it done? OpenAIRE applies information about a project to each research object in order to extract metadata about a publication. Thanks to the Research Graph, publications can come from many different resources and it is easy to collate a list of publications.
And the Outcome?
Instruct-ERIC can now view all their research outputs at a glance via their personalized CONNECT Gateway. The publications and data can be filtered by Country, Funder, Community. All publications in a community can be openly accessed by their members and the outputs are automatically linked to their own Zenodo community.

Is Project Reporting Giving you a Headache? If you have ever managed an EC project you will be aware of having to submit publication reports at reporting time. So with Connect, you can create your own community. See our Guide here:
