Supporting a FAIR EOSC taking part in the FAIRCORE4EOSC Project
OpenAIRE participates in FAIRCORE4EOSC, a new research and innovation project aiming to deliver new EOSC-Core components to offer highly anticipated services in support of a FAIR research life cycle and bridging important gaps identified in the EOSC Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).
All of us at OpenAIRE are very passionate about the project and foresee that its outputs will improve the discoverability and interoperability of research outputs.
A central role in the activities of the project is expected to play the OpenAIRE Research Graph, OpenAIRE’s collection of interlinked research objects that aggregates metadata records from a variety of scholarly communication sources from all over the world and empowers (among other services) the EOSC resource catalogue.
The OpenAIRE Research Graph will be extended into a new resource, called EOSC Research Discovery Graph (RDGraph), aiming to catalyse the provision of advanced discovery services across EOSC resources and communities. To this end, RDGraph will reuse EOSC catalogue’s content to offer natural language processing and graph-based cutting-edge solutions for EOSC users to search and discover research entities exploiting their context (e.g., disciplines, regions, institutions, funders, projects, researchers, RAiD, EOSC services) and reuse. The RDGraph will be made accessible via UI/UX tools, regular data dumps and APIs to support third-party service interoperability via EOSC interoperability frameworks and data re-use to service providers (including SMEs).
Finally, on top of the RDGraph, a toolset of intelligent community-oriented discovery tools will be developed to offer advanced added-value services to the research community at large. OpenAIRE is leading the respective work package.
The FAIRCORE4EOSC (FC4E) kick-off meeting took place on 29 and 30 June 2022 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The scope of the meeting was to inform the public of the project activities and facilitate knowledge and expertise sharing and exchange. OpenAIRE representatives, Paolo Manghi, OpenAIRE CTO and Thanasis Vergoulis, Development & Operation Director, represented our organisation at the event and presented their vision along with the respective technical details of their work plan.
