SciLifeLab has rolled out a new Open Science platform powered by OpenAIRE MONITOR and OpenAIRE CONNECT.
This collaborative initiative provides greater visibility into research outputs, open data sharing, and Open Science practices across SciLifeLab.

The platform is part of a broader movement toward openness and transparency in research, aligning with Sweden’s National Guidelines for Promoting Open Science and the Horizon Europe framework.

About the Collaboration
OpenAIRE operates one of the world’s largest interconnected scholarly data graphs, linking publications, datasets, software, and projects globally.
Through OpenAIRE MONITOR, SciLifeLab gains customised dashboards to track research outputs, sharing practices, and impact.
The CONNECT service further strengthens metadata and Open Science compliance by enabling full-text mining, automatic linking of datasets and software within publications, and advanced analytics for Open Science monitoring — all built upon the OpenAIRE Graph.

Key Outcomes:
  • Enhanced visibility and tracking of SciLifeLab’s research outputs — including publications, datasets, and software — through tailored dashboards built on OpenAIRE MONITOR.
  • Improved metadata quality and interoperability using OpenAIRE CONNECT, which enables full-text mining and automated linking of datasets and software within publications.
  • Evidence-based policy development for Open Science practices at SciLifeLab, supporting compliance with Sweden’s national Open Science guidelines and European frameworks such as Horizon Europe and CoARA.
  • Complementary analytics to existing reporting systems, allowing SciLifeLab to better understand research dissemination, reuse, and impact.
  • Community-driven refinement of the Monitor platform through continuous feedback, ensuring that the system evolves in response to user needs and research trends.
Timeline & Status:
The collaboration between SciLifeLab and OpenAIRE began in late 2024, following Sweden’s publication of the National Guidelines for Promoting Open Science.
Throughout early 2025, the focus was placed on planning, mapping the SciLifeLab research graph, and preparing data integration workflows.

By mid-2025, the teams entered the implementation phase — configuring the dashboards, validating metadata, and aligning indicators with national and European Open Science frameworks.

In autumn 2025, SciLifeLab launched the demonstration version of its Open Science Monitor at scilifelab.openaire.eu, providing early insights into research outputs, data sharing, and reuse patterns.

The project is now in an active feedback phase, where input from the SciLifeLab community is being used to improve usability, expand data coverage, and ensure the accuracy of research output representation.
Further refinement, enrichment, and integration into SciLifeLab’s internal reporting and policy systems will continue throughout 2026, leading to the full operational rollout of the Monitor.
