SciLifeLab launches the SciLifeLab Open Science Monitor powered by OpenAIRE

Feb 9, 2026

OpenAIRE is pleased to announce the rollout of an Open Science platform for SciLifeLab powered by OpenAIRE MONITOR and CONNECT, aimed at providing greater visibility into research outputs and Open Science practices across the institution.

The SciLifeLab Open Science Monitor is openly available at https://scilifelab.openaire.eu/.

OpenAIRE MONITOR provides SciLifeLab and other research organisations with tailored dashboards that track and analyse research outputs, sharing practices, and impact. In parallel, the OpenAIRE CONNECT service equips SciLifeLab with advanced full-text mining capabilities to automatically identify and link datasets and software within publications, improve metadata quality, and support compliance with national and institutional Open Science policies. Both are built upon the OpenAIRE Graph, a global open database linking research outputs such as publications, data, software, and projects.

“At OpenAIRE we are proud to support SciLifeLab in advancing Open Science. Services like CONNECT and MONITOR, both powered by the OpenAIRE Graph, deliver actionable insights and indicators that align with national guidelines and European frameworks such as Horizon Europe and CoARA, helping to value diverse contributions, foster innovation, and strengthen a culture of openness.” says Inge Van Nieuwerburgh, ex-Chair of OpenAIRE Executive Board and General Assembly and Giulia Malaguarnera, Outreach & Engagement Manager.

In Sweden, the government and national bodies aim to fully implement the transition to Open Science by 2026, and the development of the national guidelines for promoting Open Science marks an important step toward this goal, particularly by emphasising public access to research data alongside open access to publications. The SciLifeLab Open Science Monitor will serve as a starting point to improve metadata, strengthen links between research outputs and repositories, and build a more complete map of how SciLifeLab’s research outputs connect across publications, data, and software.

“Life Science in Sweden is well on the way towards the government’s goal for publicly funded research to adhere to the principles of Open Science by 2026. The launch of the SciLifeLab Open Science Monitor will enable us to track this progress with more detail, and understand even better how Open Science strengthens scientific impact and innovation in the life science area,” says Johan Rung, Head of SciLifeLab Data Centre and continues “Thanks to the close collaboration with OpenAIRE, SciLifeLab can provide a national level view on how Open Science strengthens a scientific discipline, similar to national Open Science monitors in for example France, Ireland, Germany and Netherlands.”

The service will continue to evolve, and feedback from the SciLifeLab community is essential to improving coverage, metadata quality, and supporting resources.
