The Stereochemical Assignment and Conformational Analysis of the V/W-Ring Juncture of Maitotoxin

The unambiguous stereochemical assignment of the V/W-ring juncture of maitotoxin, as shown in Figure , was accomplished using a two-step approach:  (1) the synthesis of two diastereomeric models Me-A and Me-B and (2) the comparison of the NMR spectroscopic data for each model with those of maitotoxin. Furthermore, the fact that the NMR characteristics observed for Me-A were remarkably close to those reported for maitotoxin makes a strong case for the accurate extrap...

Indifference to Hydrogen Bonding in a Family of Secondary Amides

N−H stretch region IR spectroscopy has been used to probe the hydrogen bond-donating properties of six structurally related secondary amides in which the amide group is flanked by sterically bulky groups. For three of the compounds, solid state IR analysis reveals N−H stretch bands >3400 cm-1, which suggests the absence of intermolecular N−H--OC hydrogen bonds. Crystallographic data for these three amides confirm the absence of a standard N−H--OC interaction. For ...

Dutch Parliamentary Election Panel Study, 1981-1986

Van Eijk, C.; Irwin, G.A.; Niemoeller, B. (1997)
Publisher: ICPSR - Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research
This panel study was conducted within the framework of the Dutch Parliamentary Election Studies. The survey was administered in five waves. Three waves were conducted in 1981, two before the election of May 26 and one afterward. The fourth wave occurred in the fall of 1982 and the final wave in 1986. The purpose of this collection was to assess electoral change in the Netherlands. Main topics covered in the first wave included political interest, national problems of importance to the respond...

A Study of tau decays involving eta and omega mesons

CERN-LEP. The 132 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected by ALEPH from 1991 to 1994 have been used to analyze $\eta$ and $\omega$ production in $\tau$ decays. The following branching fractions have been measured: $$\begin{eqnarray} B(\tau^-\to\nu_{\tau}\omega h^-) = (1.91 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.06) \times 10^{-2},\\ B(\tau^-\to\nu_{\tau}\omega h^-\pi^0) = (4.3 \pm 0.6 \pm 0.5) \times 10^{-3},\\ B(\tau^-\to\nu_{\tau}\eta K^-) = (2.9^{+1.3}_{-1.2} \pm 0.7) \times 10^{-4},\\ B(\tau^-\to\nu_{\tau}\e...

Measurement of the spectral functions of vector current hadronic tau decays

CERN-LEP. A measurement of the spectral functions of non-strange $\tau$ vector current final states is presented, using 124358 $\tau$ pairs recorded by the ALEPH detector at LEP during the years 1991 to 1994. The spectral functions of the dominant two- and four-pion $\tau$ decay channels are compared to published results of $e^+e^-$ annihilation experiments via isospin rotation. A combined fit of the pion form factor from $\tau$ decays and $e^+e^-$ data is performed using different parame...

Risk assessment in the Netherlands

Beroggi, Giampiero E. G.; Abbas, Tanja C.; Stoop, John A.; Aebi, Markus (1997)
Publisher: Universität Stuttgart

The Dutch approach to risk assessment is defined in the National Plan for Environmental Protection Policy (NMP) of 1988. The goal is the present and future protection of humans, animals, plants, the ecosystem, and property through measures designed to provide for a sustainable development. The safety goals are defined in "Premises for Risk Management," an annex to the NMP, in 1989. Safety goals are determined with quantitative values. Maximum permitted risks are differentiated from negligible...

Aging of Veterans of the Union Army: Military, Pension, and Medical Records, 1820-1940

Fogel, Robert W. (1997)
Publisher: ICPSR - Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research
This data collection constitutes a portion of the historical data collected by the project "Early Indicators of Later Work Levels, Disease, and Death." With the goal of constructing datasets suitable for longitudinal analyses of factors affecting the aging process, the project is collecting military, medical, and socioeconomical data on a sample of white males mustered into the Union Army during the Civil War. The project seeks to examine the influence of environmental and host factors prior ...
