Results of the German Software Industry Survey 2013

Pussep, Anton; Schief, Markus; Weiblen, Tobias; Leimbach, Timo; Peltonen, Juhana; Rönkkö, Mikko; Buxmann, Peter (2013)
This is the second year that we execute the Software Industry Survey in Germany and publish a report with the main results. As formulated in 2012, our goal is to investigate the current state of the German software industry on a yearly basis. Conclusions are made based on grounded data and empirical findings. We hope that this type of research will contribute to the work of both, practitioners and researchers.

Bus Prioritisation in Motorcycle Dependent Cities (MDCs)

Nguyen, Van Nam (2013)
In many cities of developing countries, buses are the backbone of public transport. However, most of them are operating in mixed traffic conditions without priority measures and with a number of problems at bus stops, on travel ways, and at traffic signals. Illustrative examples for this situation are motorcycle dependent cities (MDCs) such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. A lack of bus prioritisation for many years is one of the main causes leading to the poor quality of bus services and the r...

Sustainable Transformations of Water Supply Regimes. The Cuvelai-Etosha Basin in Central Northern Namibia.

Zimmermann, Martin (2013)
In this thesis, an interdisciplinary modelling approach for water resources management and its application is presented that is able to deal with socio-technical systems that are characterised by a multiplicity of variables, interdependencies, and actors. The case study area is the Cuvelai-Etosha Basin, which is located in central northern Namibia. Approximately 850,000 people or 40 % of the Namibian population live in this area, which comprises only about 14 % of the country’s area. The regi...

Negotiating Informal Urban Spaces - Female Cake Vendors at the Pasar Kue Subuh Senen Night Market in Jakarta, Indonesia

Pattiradjawane, Hendrina; Schnepf-Orth, Marita; Stoetzer, Sergej (2013)
The research concentrates on the urban phenomenon of a long-lasting informal wholesale cake market in the Southeast Asian megacity Jakarta, Indonesia. At this Pasar Kue Subuh Senen (PKS) cake market alone, 600 vendors utilize contested outdoor parking space of a strategically located commercial centre every night. Among the economic interplay of different actors, the research places special emphasis on the group of female vendors and how spatial, social, economic and institutional determinant...

Expression und Analyse plasmodialer und antiplasmodialer Proteine in Pflanzen

Reichwein, Simone (2013)

Cyclic Mutually Unbiased Bases and Quantum Public-Key Encryption

Seyfarth, Ulrich (2013)
Based on quantum physical phenomena, quantum information theory has a potential which goes beyond the classical conditions. Equipped with the resource of complementary information as an intrinsic property it offers many new perspectives. The field of quantum key distribution, which enables the ability to implement unconditional security, profits directly from this resource. To measure the state of quantum systems itself for different purposes in quantum information theory, which may be relate...

Connection Dispatching - an Algorithmic and Visual Support for the Dispatcher

Stelzer, Anselmo; Oetting, Andreas; Chu, Friederike (2013)
Securing connections in public transport is a mean to raise travellers' satisfaction and make their trips more convenient. Nevertheless, securing connections affects the trips of other travellers and therefore is not always the best solution regarding the complex train network. Thus, dispatching connecting trains is a complex task that demands special knowledge about the railway network, travellers, local situations and conditions, the schedule, rolling stock circulations, employees' duty r...

Development and validation of animal-free test methods to predict the skin sensitizing potential of chemicals

Bauch, Caroline D. (2013)
Skin sensitization is the development of the allergic contact dermatitis caused by chemicals. Regulatory accepted methods to assess skin sensitizing potential of chemicals are animal based tests, but increasing interest in animal welfare presses the development of animal-free methods. The aim of this work was the development, establishment and validation of several alternative methods to animal testing to predict the skin sensitizing potential of chemicals. Therefore several methods reflectin...
