  • Uncertainties in dissolved organic carbon load estimation in a small stream

Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) transported by rivers represents an important link between carbon pools of terrestrial and oceanic ecosystems. However, it is unclear how frequent DOC must be sampled to obtain reasonable load estimates. Here, we used continuous records of the specific UV absorption coefficient (SAC) and discharge from a headwater stream at the Ore Mountains (Germany) to calculate load errors depending on DOC sampling frequency. SAC was used as a proxy for DOC. The results show ...

Work with perpetrators of domestic violence in Eastern European and Baltic countries

The aim of the paper is to present and analyse the current state of perpetrator programmes in Eastern European and Baltic countries as this issue has barely been raised in the literature. It is connected to the fact that in described region such programmes are still relatively young phenomena and, comparing to other European Union countries (mostly from Western and Northern Europe), the number of the programmes is still insufficient. Dvě podivné "detektivky" (Čapkův Hordubal a Jméno růže U. Eka)

This genealogically-oriented essay considers two novels, Hordubal by Karel Čapek and The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, both of which are built on the plan of the classic intellectual English detective story. It seeks to demonstrate that in each, the fundamental noetic principle of the genre, which is the belief that the world can be known in its entirety, without complications, is eroded.

Můžeme v hydrologii sdružovat neurčité informace a znalosti?

In this paper, the author expounds the meaning of linking of uncertain information and knowledge both generally, and in hydrology. He presents a review of methodological approaches to the investigation of linking. In more detail, he deals with multidimensional probabilistic distribution, the algebraic combining theory, derived by P.Hájek within a consulting system, and fuzzy methods. The paper also addresses hitherto unsolved problems that should be tackled in future research.
