  • Computationally Efficient Test for Gene Set Dysregulation

Dessy, Adrien; Dupont, Pierre; International Workshop on Machine Learning in Systems Biology (2014)
The identification of genetic regulatory pathways whose structure differs across biological conditions provides significant insights about organisms and diseases functioning at molecular level. In this paper, we propose a computationally efficient test to assess from gene expression data if a given group of genes is differentially regulated between two conditions. The method yields promising results in terms of precision and recall on real datasets.

Le statut du groupe comme modérateur des effets distincts de la discrimination personnelle et groupale sur l’estime de soi personnelle: études comparatives des étudiants d’origine européenne et maghrébines

Bourguignon, David; van Cleempoel, maximilien; Collange, Julie; Herman, Ginette (2012)

Why did peace emerge following the tsunami in Indonesia but not in Sri Lanka?

    De Knoop, Apolline (2017)
This thesis examines the impact of the tsunami of 2004 on both the conflicts in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Several vectors led to peace in Indonesia while they fuelled the war in Sri Lanka. It isn’t the catastrophe by itself that led to divergent situations but a sum of different factors such as international pressure, military victory, lack of coordination etc. This thesis, after describing both wars, analyses the several variables conducting to peace in one situation and escalating to war in ...

Size reduction of the donor liver is a safe way to alleviate the shortage of size-matched organs in pediatric liver transplantation.

Otte, Jean-Bernard; de Ville de Goyet, J; Sokal, Etienne; Alberti, D.; Moulin, Didier; De Hemptinne, Bernard; Veyckemans, Francis; Van Obbergh, Luc; Carlier, Marianne; Clapuyt, Philippe (1990)
The development of pediatric liver transplantation is considerably hampered by the dire shortage of small donor organs. This is a very sad situation because in most experienced centers, liver replacement can offer a long-term hope of survival of more than 70% in a growing variety of pediatric liver disorders. The reported experience with 54 reduced-size grafts on a total of 141 transplants performed in 117 children between 1984 and 1988 demonstrates that the technique of reduced-size liver tr...
