  • Customization and problem solving - strategic consequences from a competence perspective

The paper deals with the changes to the competence set of manufacturing organizations moving towards offerings with a high degree of customization and problem solving efforts. Preliminary findings are presented that imply that firms with the above strategic focus integrate in-depth technical competences and sales related competences in their customer interaction interfaces. Furthermore, customer projects in these organizations draw from a wide array of internal competence sets and also utiliz...

    Laminar-flow Liquid-to-air Heat Exchangers - Energy-efficient Display Cabinet Applications

Provisions are stored and displayed in supermarkets and grocery stores, at a temperature lower than the ambient, in display cabinets, which are responsible for a significant amount of the energy use in this sector. During the 1990s, major changes in the regulations governing the use of synthetic refrigerants took place in Sweden. This resulted in many refrigeration systems being converted to systems with indirect cooling by means of a liquid secondary refrigerant. The cooling coil is an impor...

Propagation of transient electromagnetic waves in inhomogeneous and dispersive waveguides

Transient wave propagation in a waveguide filled with an inhomogeneous dispersive medium is analyzed. The waveguide is inhomogeneous in the longitudinal direction, but is homogeneously filled in the transverse directions. The analysis is performed in the time domain and is based upon a wave splitting technique and the method of propagators. The propagator maps the exciting field from one position in the waveguide to the field at another position. This mapping is represented as time convolutio...

Factors Affecting Rates of Change in Soil Bacterial Communities

The soil bacterial community is under the constant influence of its environment. Changing any of the factors affecting the bacterial community will induce a selection pressure which, with time, will change the community. In this work the effect of changing the temperature or pH on the soil bacterial community was studied. Measurements using the [3H]-thymidine incorporation technique showed that the soil bacterial community had an optimum temperature for growth and activity between 25 and 30°C...

    What sets could not be

Sets are often taken to be collections, or at least akin to them. In contrast, this paper argues that. although we cannot be sure what sets are (and the question, perhaps, does not even make sense), what we can be entirely sure of is that they are not collections of any kind. The central argument will be that being an element of a set and being a member in a collection are governed by quite different axioms. For this purpose, a brief logical investigation into how set theory and collection th...
