  • Wild, but not too-wild animals

Rewilding is positioned as ‘post'-conservation through its emphasis on unleashing the autonomy of natural processes. In this paper, we argue that the autonomy of nature rhetoric in rewilding is challenged by human interventions. Instead of joining critique toward the ‘managed wilderness' approach of rewilding, however, we examine the injustices this entails for keystone species. Reintroduction case studies demonstrate how arbitrary standards for wildness are imposed on these animals as they d...

Growth differences within full-sib families of Picea abies (L.) Karst.

In the present paper the reasons for differences in plant height within full-sib families of Norway spruce are discussed. In many cases it was shown that the duration of the growth period to some extent was responsible for the differences in plant height. If the total plant height is plotted against the percentage growth 4 or 5 weeks before growth termination, clones with good growth rhythm characteristics could conveniently be identified. Therefore this technique is recommended for selection...

Residues of DDT and lindane on treated conifer seedlings and in forest soil

Conifer seedlings were treated with DDT and lindane before being planted in a reforestation area. At intervals samples were taken from the planted seedlings and the surrounding soil and analysed for DDT components and lindane. The loss of the insecticides from the seedlings and the incidence of them in the soil were determined. The ecological impact of planting insecticide-treated seedlings in the forest is discussed.

Inverkan av lutningar på massflöde och spridningsbild hos konstgödselspridare

This work is a part of a project initiated by the Swedish Riksdag, TYP 93. The goal of this work is to find the influence of sloping ground on massflow and spreader pattern of fertilizer spreaders. If there is any influence, a proposal of testing method is to be given. The change in drop point area when inclining a centrifugal broadcaster was calculated in a computer. Two fertilizer spreaders were used, Bogballe E1000 and Amazone ZA-F 603. The drop point area was not changing when inclining t...
