  • Epigenetics and phenotypic variability: interesting insights from birds and long term effects of embryonic environment in avian species

Collin, Anne; COUSTHAM, Vincent; FRESARD, Laure; Loyau, Thomas; Morisson, Mireille; Brun, Jean- Michel; Zerjal, Tatiana; Minvielle, Francis; BERTIN, Aline; Pitel, Frederique (2014)

Emotional valence : Is it reflected in call types and in acoustic properties of piglet vocalizations?

Spinka , Marek; Tallet, Céline; Linhart, Pavel (2013)
How emotional valence is encoded in mammalian vocalizations is a prominent question in animal-welfare-oriented bioacoustics. We assessed this question using 1513 calls produced by 84 piglets in 11 situations. The negativity of the situations was ranked based on judgments of 28 pig behaviour experts. The acoustic quality of calls was described with 8 acoustic parameters. K-means clustering method was used to classify the calls into 5 call types. Statistics were calculated based on situation me...

Multiscale modeling for bioresources and bioproducts

    Ruiz, Thierry; Tonda, Alberto (2017)
Designing and processing complex matter and materials are key objectives of bioresource and bioproduct research. Modeling approaches targeting such systems have to account for their two main sources of complexity: their intrinsic multi-scale nature; and the variability and heterogeneity inherent to all living systems. Here we provide insight into methods developed at the Food & Bioproduct Engineering division (CEPIA) of the French National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA). This brief...
