  • Flexographic artists’ books

This article introduces experimental artists' books created in the interstices between technology and tradition. The series of books are created by utilizing scraps produced via flexographic label printing. Each book is constituted by means of the accumulation of paper on the machine, which introduces a never-ending page structure as a result of the continuous roll, creating a swirling formation. The work is an inquiry on growth, imperfection, form and time, enriched by the impact of mechanic...

    Droplet resonator based optofluidic microlasers

An SU-8 polymer microdisk resonator coated with a palladium (Pd) layer and coupled to a single-mode optical waveguide is used to as a hydrogen (H-2) gas sensor. In the presence of H2 a red shift is observed in the spectral positions of the microdisk whispering gallery modes (WGMs) due to the expansion in the Pd lattice. H-2 concentrations below the flammable limit (4%) down to 0.3% could be detected in nitrogen atmosphere at room temperature. For H-2 concentrations between 0.3 1%, WGM spectra...

Rising Powers in a Changing Global Order: the political economy of Turkey in the age of BRICs

Abstract The rise of bric s presents a major challenge to the existing global order. A second category of emerging powers, which may be labelled near- bric s, have also displayed increasing pro-activism in recent years in terms of influencing the regional balance of power politics, in addition to their growing presence in international organisations and global affairs. It is in this context that we aim to examine Turkey as a striking example of a ‘near- bric ’ power, a country that has ado...

Analysis of parametric resonances in comb-driven microscanners

Dynamic behavior of a comb-driven torsional microscanner is governed by a nonlinear parametric differential equation. Theoretically, such systems have multiple resonances located near the integer fractions of twice the mechanical resonance frequency. The number of observable parametric resonances strongly depends on the damping of the system, whereas the stable and unstable operating regions are determined by drive-voltage and drive-frequency. In atmospheric pressure, only first few of these ...

Nonlinear eigenvalue problems with specified eigenvalues

This work considers eigenvalue problems that are nonlinear in the eigenvalue parameter. Given such a nonlinear eigenvalue problem T, we are concerned with finding the minimal backward error such that T has a set of prescribed eigenvalues with prescribed algebraic multiplicities. We consider backward errors that only allow constant perturbations, which do not depend on the eigenvalue parameter. While the usual resolvent norm addresses this question for a single eigenvalue of multiplicity one, ...
