  • A Route Selection Problem Applied to Auto-Piloted Aircraft Tugs

The antithetical needs of increasing the air traffic, reducing the air pollutant and noise emissions, jointly with the prominent problem of airport congestion spur to radically innovate the entire ground operation system and airport management. In this scenario, an alternative autonomous system for engine-off taxiing (dispatch towing) attracts the interest of the civil aviation world. Even though structural and regulatory limitations undermine the employment of the already existing push-back ...

GT: Picking up the Truth from the Ground for Internet Traffic

Much of Internet traffic modeling, firewall, and intrusion detection research requires traces where some ground truth regarding application and protocol is associated with each packet or flow. This paper presents the design, development and experimental evaluation of gt, an open source software toolset for associating ground truth information with Internet traffic traces. By probing the monitored host's kernel to obtain information on active Internet sessions, gt gathers ground truth at the a...

    MEDEA: A Hybrid Shared-memory/Message-passing Multiprocessor NoC-based Architecture

The shared-memory model has been adopted, both for data exchange as well as synchronization using semaphores in almost every on-chip multiprocessor implementation, ranging from general purpose chip multiprocessors (CMPs) to domain specific multi-core graphics processing units (GPUs). Low-latency synchronization is desirable but is hard to achieve in practice due to the memory hierarchy. On the contrary, an explicit exchange of synchronization tokens among the processing elements through dedic...

Assessing Food Safety Risk in Global Supply Chain

Despite many attempts in the food safety risk assessment, there are a few studies and methods to cover the entire food supply chain. This study introduce a new model to perform the food risk assessment considering human factor along the entire food supply chain. The multi-discipline methodology of risk assessment tool, in combination of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) has been applied in order to assess high safety risk point along the entire supply chain of food products. The method has be...

Tight-binding approach to excitons bound to monolayer impurity planes: strong radiative properties of InAs in GaAs

A theory of Wannier-Mott excitons bound to monolayer (ML) impurity planes in semiconductors, which is based on Green's function tight-binding calculations of the single-particle states, is presented. Binding energies and oscillator strengths for one and two MLs of InAs in GaAs are predicted to be much larger than in the usual InxGa1-xAs/GaAs thick quantum wells. The reason is the increase of effective mass of both carriers due to folding of the InAs bands along the growth direction. The resul...
