  • Immigration, growth and unemployment: Panel VAR evidence from OECD countries

This paper examines empirically the interaction between immigration and host country economic conditions. We employ a panel VAR techniques to use a large annual dataset on 22 OECD countries over the period 1987-2009. The VAR approach allows to addresses the endogeneity problem by allowing the endogenous interaction between the variables in the system. Our results provide evidence of migration contribution to host economic prosperity (positive impact on GDP per capita and negative impact on ag...

Effect of interpolation on noise propagation from images to DIC displacement maps

International audience; This paper introduces and validates a new prediction of sensor noise propagation from images of randomly marked surfaces to displacement maps obtained by Digital Image Correlation (DIC). Images are indeed often affected by sensor noise, which propagates to DIC output. We consider here the 2D global DIC (G-DIC), for which this output is the in-plane displacement calculated at a set of nodes. Predictive formula for the resolution of the displacement at these nodes is alr...

Docosahexaenoic acid-supplementation prior to fasting prevents muscle atrophy in mice

We thank Arlette Cissoire, Benoit Cohade, Medhi Dejelloul, and Philippe Lhoste from the Unite d'Experimentation en Nutrition (INRA Clermont-Ferrand-Theix, France) for excellent assistance with animal care. We thank Chrystele Jouve and Sarah De Saint-Vincent for their help in biochemical experiments. We also thank Sergio Polakov and Jeremie David for help in muscle glycogen measurements; Background : Muscle wasting prevails in numerous diseases (e.g. diabetes, cardiovascular and kidney disease...

From a reductionist to a holistic approach in preventive nutrition to define new and more ethical paradigms

This concept paper intends to define four new paradigms for improving nutrition research. First, the consequences of applying a reductionist versus a holistic approach to nutrition science will be discussed. The need for a more focused preventive nutrition approach, as opposed to a curative one, will then be presented on the basis of the ‘healthy core metabolism’ concept. This will lead us to propose a new classification of food products based on processing for future epidemiological studies....
