The study shows different views on starting education in the first class by a six-year-old. An overview of individual features of a six-year-old’s social-emotional development constitutes a point of reference for interpretations of research results obtained. It has been conducted among first-year pupils’ parents after a year of implementing the education reform. Results of the research analyses show how pupils behave in a mixed-age class. The child’s social-emotional sphere has become the centre of attention. In the face of a six-year-old pupil’s adaptation difficulties, remedial measures have been singled out and presented as postulates.
