Обзорная статья посвящена функционально замещенным производным ванилина и ванилаля – удобным и доступным исходным соединениям для получения на их основе целого ряда новых химических веществ. Рассмотрено получение сложных эфиров, оксимов, семикарбазидов, тиосемикарбазидов, фенилгидразонов, ацеталей, диаминалей, азометинов сложных эфиров ванилинового ряда, азотсодержащих гетероциклических соединений  и аминовых солей. Приведены примеры их практического применения.
