Davydova Autonomization of the legal status of the institute of higher education This article discusses the sources of university autonomy in Europe. Elements of autonomy Institute of Higher Education are considered: academic, financial, organizational, human resources, scientific autonomy. It is mentioned in the article that university autonomy is one of the oldest forms of self-government that has provided their transformation in the most important factors of a social scientific progress since Middle Ages. The author states that the autonomy is an institutional form of academic freedom that is a necessary precondition for a high education institution’s being able to perform its functions effectively without overpressure from the government and commercialization. The university autonomy outlines the connection between government, society and higher education institution. A significant step in the autonomy of Ukrainian education institutions was made thanks to the enactment of a new Law of Ukraine “On higher education” which defines the autonomy of higher education institution as its independence and responsibility in making decisions regarding development of academic freedoms, organization of educational process, scientific researches, inner management, economic and other activity. As a conclusion, the author underlines that the changes that are held on the level of legislature and legal implementation are positive and mean that the sphere of private law’s influence on the higher education is getting broader.
