Transport industry plays a vital role in the development of economic of a nation. In fact, the progress of a nation and progress of its transport industry is complementary to each other. The Road Transport industry has a lions share in Indias economic development. Due to easy accessibility, flexibility of operations, door to door service and reliability, Road Transport in India showed an increase in share of both passenger and freight traffic vis--vis other modes of transport. Transport sector accounts for 6.4% share in Indias Gross Domestic Product (GDP).However, Road Transport has emerged as a dominant segment in Indias transportation sector with a share of 4.8% in Indias GDP comparison to railways that has a meager 1% share of GDP in 2011-12. With the help of this research paper the author has tried to examine the revenue structure of Road Transport sector in India. Besides this the author has also focused on some suggestion for improvement of revenue in Road Transport sector of India.
