Let us imagine that we are at Stratford on Avon. It is May 26, 1963. The last strains of the band concert have faded away. The audience has dispersed. The musicians are packing up their instruments. They notice an old gentleman, apparently askep in one of the chairs. So ended gently the last holiday of George Ridsdale Goldsbrough, just one week past his 82nd birthday. He played a curious indirect role in the development of the theory of ocean circulation; many times over.
