“Ecosystem services” is increasingly recognised as a concept that can aid sustainability of ecosystems, and there is a drive to include this concept into planning and policy practices. The aim of this research is to identify the ecosystem services of naturalistic urban vegetation and how these services respond to drivers of change. For the purpose of this paper, the authors define naturalistic urban vegetation as ‘vegetation in an urban environment that consists of only native species that have been planted and managed by humans’. This poster describes results collected from botanical surveys carried out in Runcorn, UK. Four ecosystem services associated with naturalistic urban vegetation in Runcorn have been calculated: energy conservation, air quality improvement, carbon dioxide reduction and water runoff. The results demonstrate that Runcorn’s trees are worth a large amount each year for the provision of these four ecosystem services.
