This is a 36-piece bone china dinner service, made in Stoke-on-Trent in the UK, which is decorated with images from the large scroll-like drawing ‘From Alfred Street to Temple Street, Detroit’, referencing the way images of classical ruins are traditionally used to decorate china table ware. The dinner service was exhibited in the exhibition Dancing in the Boardroom at The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, (MOCAD), Detroit, U.S.A. from January 15th to April 24th, 2016. It was also used during an art event that took the form of a dinner party held in the Masonic Lodge where Henry Ford was a member at the Masonic Temple in Detroit in April 2016. The dinner guests were twelve inspirational women from Detroit who are engaged in radical and creative things in the city but in a very particular way - they are using what could be understood to be a negative situation to positive effect and it is this notion that drives much of Brown’s current practice.
