The article considers the function of theatric imagery in the poetics of Wyndham Lewis' play Enemy of the Stars (1914). Through the analysis of the theory and history of the ancient theatre (through the sources potentially known to Lewis), the author reveals and interprets the ancient elements and character of the theatric images of the play. Moreover, the article determines the key modeling role of masks of the main characters in the self-referential exposition of Enemy of Stars, reflecting the problematic character of relations between the reality and a work of art, as well as the verbal and the visual in Lewis' poetics as a writer and an artist.
