To a large extent mass media has contributed to the construction of racism through the creation and transmission of a particular ideology found in newspaper articles relating to ethnic minorities. Therefore, the intention of this paper is to understand, using the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and the Visual Semiotics as methodological tools, those representations made of the mapuche people from newspapers of greater circulation in Chile such as "El Mercurio" and "La Cuarta", beginning with the hunger strike of the Mapuche prisoners that occurred in southern Chile in 2010. This paper is focused on an analysis of verbal and visual components used from a compilation of articles in representation of the Mapuche.
