El artículo analiza la incidencia que ha tenido la competencia intra-industria y las aglomeraciones empresariales a nivel regional en el crecimiento económico de la industria de fabricación de alimentos de Colombia. El estudio se basa en las teorías de la transferencia de conocimientos entre empresas. Se trabaja con información estadística del DANE e información financiera de la Superintendencia de Sociedades, periodo 1979-2007. Estimando una función de producción de tipo Cobb-Douglas con datos de panel balanceado, se pudo encontrar que la mayor competencia y concentración industrial de empresas de alimentos está asociada a un mayor crecimiento económico.
