ABSTRACT: Virtual communities offer useful information to generate economic and competitive intelligence. Therefore, the principal applications of virtual communities in the accomplishment of such kind of intelligence are identified and described. However, adequate techniques for collecting and analyzing the information are not available in order to explore the information contained. From results obtained in study cases of the Orkut community and having as reference the intelligence cycle, a specific method for managing information originated from virtual communities is proposed and applied
