La globalización implica para todos los países, especialmente los latinoamericanos, grandes oportunidades; pero al mismo tiempo, los desafíos no son menores. Efectivamente, existen costos de ajuste en la incorporación de un país a la economía mundial, pero, los beneficios superan notoriamente a los costos. El foco de las políticas de un país que se integra a la economía global debiera estar orientado a maximizar los beneficios y minimizar los costos. Para esto, todos los agentes económicos debieran "estar equipados" para aprovechar los beneficios de la GL; por otra parte, el país tiene que establecer mecanismos locales para compensar a los "perdedores". En este artículo se examinan la lógica de las políticas requeridas para enfrentar la globalización considerando las restricciones internacionales, el rol del gobierno y el nuevo entorno laboral.
