Open Science for Funders

Empowering Monitoring & Impact

Harness Open Research Intelligence

Discover how the OpenAIRE infrastructure and services help you monitor and manage your funding activities, providing you with the insights needed to make evidence-based policy decisions.

The Infrastructure

At the heart of OpenAIRE and its services lies the OpenAIRE Graph; a public, community-governed research intelligence infrastructure that connects publications, data, software, funders and organisations across the global research landscape.

Incorporate your funding data into the OpenAIRE Graph so you can monitor funded outputs and trends to make evidence-based policy decisions. See how.

Training

Launched for the first time in 2026, the Open Science Policy Training Programme marks a new step to support the next generation of policy leaders. Designed for experienced professionals and decision-makers, the programme addresses the growing need for practical, impact-driven Open Science policy development across Europe.

As its inaugural edition, the 2026 programme sets the foundation for a long-term initiative to strengthen Open Science policy capacity, foster collaboration, and drive systemic change across the research and innovation landscape.

Stay tuned for future editions!

Supporting Policy

CoARA Checklist

This checklist, developed by the CoARA Working Group on Open Infrastructures for Responsible Research Assessment, helps research organisations quickly judge whether an Open Infrastructure is truly fit for responsible assessment, by focusing on four essentials: technical strength, operational readiness, community governance, and ethical, inclusive design.

OS Readiness Checklist

Developed by OpenAIRE experts in 2018 in the context of the OpenAIRE Advance project, this checklist helps Research Funding Organisations (RFOs) assess their readiness to adopt an Open Science policy. It covers the main elements to consider when designing a policy aligned with key European developments in Open Science and Open Access.

Although originally developed in 2018, the checklist remains a valuable practical tool for reflecting on policy design and organisational preparedness.

Model Open Science Policy

This model policy helps Research Funding Organisations develop or refine Open Science policies with confidence. It offers a practical and strategic framework for aligning policy choices with the main European and international developments in Open Science, research data, research integrity, responsible assessment, and AI in research.

Built on OpenAIRE’s policy expertise and earlier foundational work in Open Access and research data policy, it serves as a reliable starting point for funders that want to create policies fit for today’s research environment.

OpenAIRE services are interlinked with each other and are fully connected and integrated into the global infrastructure. They all use open APIs and are based on transparent, community-led methodology.
