SoBigData RI PPP

SoBigData RI, with its tools and services, empowers researchers and innovators through a platform for the design and execution of large-scale data science and social mining experiments, open to users with diverse backgrounds, accessible on cloud (aligned with EOSC guidelines), and also exploiting supercomputing facilities. SoBigData RI will render social mining experiments more efficiently designed, adjusted, and repeatable by non-data scientists' domain experts by pushing the FAIR  and FACT principles.

SoBigData RI will render social mining experiments more efficiently designed, adjusted, and repeatable by non-data scientists' domain experts by pushing the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable) and FACT (Fair, Accountable, Confidential and Transparent) principles. SoBigData RI will orient resources from multiple perspectives: e-infrastructures and online services developers; big data analytics and AI; complex systems focussed on modelling social phenomena; ELSEC (Ethical, Legal, SocioEconomic and Cultural) aspects of data protection (as defined by the HLEG-AI); privacy-preserving techniques. SoBigData RI PPP will move our RI forward from the simple awareness of ethical and legal challenges in social mining to the development of concrete tools that operationalize ethics with value-sensitive design, incorporating values and norms for privacy protection, fairness, transparency, and pluralism

The SoBigData RI PPP objectives are part of a vision that will enable our RI to provide: more effective national research systems within a federated European platform by planning, designing, and integrating services in the SoBigData RI. The objective is to allow users to access methods and algorithms provided by RI as services in the cloud of e-infrastructure to be executed using the SoBigData RI computational resources. This aspect will follow the concepts of metamodeling as well as FAIR and FACT principles. Optimal transnational cooperation and competition: this aspect will be granted in 13 European countries, offering world-leading research expertise from multiple disciplines, as well as Big Data computing platforms, big social data resources, and cutting-edge computational methods. Our services will provide unique opportunities to individual researchers and data scientists to access the resources they need, regardless of location, thus fostering competition and furthering scientific excellence. An open labour market for researchers: SoBigData RI training program facilitates researchers’ mobility across national boundaries. Our training provisions will help researchers develop state-of-the-art research and digital skills that increase their competitiveness in the labour market both within academia and beyond. Cultivating diversity in data science through training: computer and data science currently fail to adequately embody staff equality and diversity issues. The SoBigData RI strategies will consider this aspect in all the elements of the research activities: the aim is to leverage existing networks to raise awareness regarding the opportunities provided by employment in data science with particular attention to underrepresented minorities. Optimal circulation, open science to transfer scientific knowledge: our RI is fully committed to open science, open knowledge, and open access, following all applicable European and national guidelines. For this reason, the outputs of SoBigData RI are openly accessible online to anyone, and the RI is further committed to the democratization of scientific knowledge.
