La Fundación Española para la Ciencia y Tecnología (FECYT), como NOAD para España del proyecto OpenAIRE, organiza este seminario web sobre RGPD y aspectos legales en la gestión de datos de investigación.
En este webinar se proporcionará una perspectiva legal sobre la gestión de datos de investigación, tanto teórica como práctica: ¿Cómo se manejan los datos personales sensibles en investigación? ¿Cuáles son los posibles problemas de privacidad cuando se utilizan datos personales en una investigación? ¿Qué se necesita saber sobre la RGPD y la nueva directiva PSI?
El contenido del seminario será relevante para investigadores, bibliotecarios y administradores de investigación de todos los campos (incluidas las ciencias sociales y las humanidades). Habrá también tiempo para preguntas y respuestas durante la sesión, además de poder enviar preguntas a través de este formulario.

We are pleased to announce that the guest speaker of this webinar is legal expert Prodromos Tsiavos, Legal Adviser of "Athena" Research & Innovation Center and OpenAIRE.
The GDPR complexity resulted in the need to better understand the regulation’s provisions and how it is applied in the research conduct, also in line with Open Science. The purpose of the webinar is to analyze important issues surrounding the application of the Regulation at all stages of the research lifecycle. More specifically, the webinar will examine the following:
- The basic concepts of GDPR
- The exception for scientific research
- Special categories of personal data
- Management of personal data within the research cycle
- Digital services for Open Science and GDPR

OpenAIRE is happy to announce two public webinars in our Legal Policy Webinar series: one on Wednesday April 29th, and the other on Monday May 4th, at 2 PM CEST.
How do you deal with sensitive personal data in biomedical research? What are potential privacy issues when using personal data for your research? What do you need to know about the GDPR and the new PSI directive?
In these webinars, our experts Prodromos Tsiavos (Senior Legal Advisor - ARC/ Head of Digital and Innovation - Onassis Group), Thomas Margoni (CREATE Glasgow) and Jacques Flores Dourojeanni (Research Data Management Consultant Utrecht University Library) will provide a legal perspective on research data management - both theoretical and practical. Given the current health crisis, the practical examples will focus on biomedical sciences and medical data - but the webinars will be relevant for researchers and research admin from all fields (including social sciences and humanities).
We invite researchers and research support staff to join these webinars. The webinar on April 29th will have a researcher-centered approach, while the webinar on May 4th will focus on research support and advice services. Of course , you are welcome to attend both webinars, but take into account that there might be some overlap.
Both webinars will allow for generous Q&A time, and you have the possibility to submit your questions at registration.

4th May 2 PM CEST: Webinar aimed at research support staff: what are relevant things to know when it comes to GDPR, new PSI directive and IPR - how to advise researchers - common misperceptions and troubleshooting - practical examples.

Research Data Management and Legal issues related to research data by S. Venkataraman (DCC) and Thomas Margoni (CREATe)
In this 'double bill' webinar, we first hear about the basic principles of Research Data Management, explained by S. Venkataraman from Digital Curation Centre (DCC). Participants are pointed to essential tools and standards, as well as a number of good practices related to RDM and data management planning.
In the second part of the webinar, Thomas Margoni from CREATe illustrates the legal framework around the complex issue of data ownership and will try to explain in non legal terms what the law says, what researchers need to know, what is the role of Open Science principles in this area, and what kind of supporting material OpenAIRE has produced to assist researchers.

Webinar to Support Open Science Policy Creation and Legal Issues
Are you developing an open science policy in your organization? Do you need extra support to align it to other policies, or information on legal issues on research data such as licensing and copyright issues?
OpenAIRE is offering a series of webinars targeting Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) that explore policy and legal issues around Open Science/ Open Access. The aim of the webinars is to support RPOs and RFOs in developing and/or aligning their Open Science policies by discussing the elements that a policy should include and legal issues that should be taken into consideration, and presenting the ways in which OpenAIRE can support them in their work through the NOAD network.
The first one-hour webinar will take place on May 20th, 2019 at 13h CEST and targets stakeholders (from research organisations, funders and ministries) interested in open science policies. The webinar will present the policy templates developed by the OpenAIRE project, followed by examples of practical implementation. The webinar will also focus on how to approach licensing issues in the context of open science policies supported by best practice examples.

The webinar aims to provide examples of best GDPR compliant practices in a research lifecycle as well as to give advice to everyday issues that researchers are facing on this matter.

New guides for researchers and project coordinators
OpenAIRE has released guides for researchers who want to know more about the legal issues related to their research data.
During this webinar, Prodromos Tsiavos and Thomas Margoni take you through this guides and answer questions (pre-submited during registration and asked live during the webinar Q&A).
The first guide is called 'How do I know if my research data is protected?' and teach you about research data and their protection by intellectual property rights. EOSC-hub brings together multiple service providers to create the Hub for the European Open Science Cloud: a single contact point for European researchers and innovators and their partners worldwide to discover, access, use and reuse a broad spectrum of resources for advanced data-driven research. Services in the Hub are offered via an online catalogue.
Legal and ethical considerations when sharing research data
Aimed at researchers in social sciences, but of interest for other fields as well, Irena Vipavc Brvar gives an overview of the most important legal and ethical considerations when sharing research data. She discusses the implications of GDPR for scientific research, informed consent and ethical aspects of dealing with personal data, and legal issues.
